In each institution there are 4 categories of users:
- students
- tutors
- test administrators
- organisation administrator
This need not mean that the administration is carried out be entirely
different people: one individual could act as tutor, test administrator and
organisation administrator. The tasks can be divided up according to the needs of each institution.
Students
A student logs on using his/her home institution email as the username. If he/she forgets
the password, there is a "password reminder" facility which emails the password.
(All users have access to this facility). The student then sees the question
sets which the Test Administrator has specified for the student’s group. This
may consist, for example, of all the basic-level grammar exercises for French,
this week’s formally-assessed test on Object Pronouns, and one exercise on
Italian civilisation. The exercises can consist of as many or as few questions
as the Test Administrator specifies. The questions selected may be specific or a
random sample. The tests can have a formative purpose, where the student can
have repeated tries over several days or weeks, or they can have a summative
emphasis where access is restricted to a single day.
Tutors
When a tutor logs on he/she sees the results for his/her students only. These
can be downloaded directly into a spreadsheet or sent as email. Results may be
viewed in Surname Order or in Score Order
Test administrators
The Test Administrator creates, updates or deletes tests from the question
sets available. Each test can have several sections, with each one containing
randomised or specified questions. Each institution will probably have one Test
Administrator for each language. However, if a large number of students are
involved, it may be useful to have different Test Administrators responsible for
different levels of study in a single language : it’s up to you to decide.
Organisation administrator
This person manages users for the institution, adding, modifying or deleting
students, tutors, and test administrators. There can be more than one
Organisation administrator if you want to share out responsibilities.
